4. GOALS:
a. To provide the necessary means of bringing all Tamangs together as one family
b. To organize social, cultural and religious events
c. To preserve Tamang language, culture, literature, script, heritage, history and Buddhism in religion.
d. To help the less fortunate Tamangs in Nepal and from other countries of the world.
e. To foster friendship and understandings among Tamangs, Nepalese and other people in America so as to improve the relationship between the people of Nepal and the United States of America.

A. General Member
All Tamangs, their spouses and children, paying annual membership fees, are the General Members of Tamang Society. The General Members are eligible to vote and be elected in the Executive Board.
B. Board Member
Executive Board members shall be comprised of 13 General members who are elected for a two years term at the biannual election.
C. Honorary Member
Distinguished members of the Tamang and other communities who have in the past demonstrated their common concern to the Tamang Community are nominated to the Honorary Membership by the majority Board Members. However, advice of Honorary Members is no-binding to the Board.
D. Lifetime Member
Any Tamang who contributes US $ 1000 to Tamang Society will be a Lifetime
Member.

7. BOARD MEMBER DUTIES
PRESIDENT
a) Calls Board / General Member meetings
b) Chairperson, maintains order in meetings
c) Prepares correspondence in coordination with the secretary
d) Represents the Society to the public
VICE PRESIDENT
a) Acting President during any absenteeism of the elected and appointed
President
GENERAL SECRETARY
a) Calls for Board meetings with the consent of the President
b) Notifies members by mail of meetings
c) Records the Board meeting minutes, both discussions and decisions
d) Prepares correspondence in coordination with the President
SECRETARY
a) Acting General Secretary during any absenteeism of the elected and appointed General Secretary
TREASURER
a) Manages all financial accounts on behalf and in the interest of the Society
b) Reports all financial activities to the Board of Directors and General Members
c) Collects membership dues and updates listings
JOINT TREASURER
a) Acting Treasurer during any absenteeism of the elected and appointed Treasurer
BOARD MEMBERS
The Board Members shall be the decision makers by their voting power for the organization’s policies and programs in the Board meetings. He/she shall carryout any responsibility given by the Board.
8. QUORUM
Majority Board Members present at a meeting will constitute a Quorum
9. ELECTION
a) Elections of the Executive Board will be held every two years
b) One Board Member, One Honorary Member and Three General Members will
Constitute the Election Committee
c) The decisions made by the Election Committee will be final
10. ELECTION GUIDELINES
a) The Board will publish a list of all General Members and make it available to all election nominees.
b) The interested General Members should file their nomination for the election
as per the regulation set by the election committee
c) The General Members will choose thirteen names as their nominees from the list of names made available by the election committee
d) The top thirteen nominees will be elected as the Board members
e) The top thirteen elected Board members will form an executive committee as required and mentioned in article 6 of this By-Laws.
f) The candidate must be a person of Tamang origin in order to be an eligible candidate to become President of the Society
g) Election Committee will notify General Members with names and respective positions of its new Executive Committee
11. REPLACEMENT
The majority of Board members will appoint a General Member to fill up a vacant seat in the Board if required.
12. ABSENTEE AND DISMISSAL
The majority of Board members may dismiss any of its Board members for absenteeism of three consecutive meetings without any relevant reasons provided to the Executive Board. A new appointment to the Board will be made in accordance with the Replacement clause provided in these By-Laws.
13. MEMBERSHIP DUES
a) Adult: US $ 60 per person, renewable annually
b) Student: US $ 30 per person, renewable annually
c) Children: Free membership for Children under the age of 18
14. NEW TAMANG
A New Tamang is defined as a person whose arrival to the area hasn’t been more
Than three months
15. DUE PERIOD
The annual dues are to be collected by the Tamang Society between January 1st
and July 30th of each year, for the current calendar year.
16. MISCELLANEOUS
ADVISORS
If the majority of the Board members describe the need, any distinguished members of Tamang community may be asked to become an Advisor of the Board. However, any advice of an Advisor is non-binding to the Board.
COORDINATORS
Majority of Board members may nominate any Board member for various
Coordinator positions to coordinate various activities related to the Tamang Society. Nominated coordinators may form a committee of his/her own consisting of General Members. All final decisions regarding any Tamang Society related activities are made by the Board members.
Assistance Guidelines:
Assistance of various kinds will be attempted to be provided to all General Members of the Society.
A. EMPLOYMENT
Tamang Society will make every effort to find bona -fide employment for job seeking members and New Tamangs
B. IMMIGRATION MATTERS
Tamang Society will make efforts to find or recommend a suitable immigration lawyer to assist any of its members and New Tamangs in need of immigration help. Tamang Society shall not assume any responsibility for any incurred costs for such legal services; All such expenses shall be borne by the members who seek legal assistance.
C. IDENTIFICATION CARD
Tamang Society will issue an Identity Card to all of its General Members valid to the date of their membership which can be renewed annually.
D. IN ILLNESS AND IN DEATH
Tamang Society shall provide every assistance possible to its members in the event of illness or a Death in the family, if or as required
